  1. We want to get to know you! Tell us what life’s like for Cynthia Gan.

    I was born and raised in Johor before moving to Kuala Lumpur for my studies after graduating from secondary school. My first job after graduation was as an internal HR executive. During my second job, I had the opportunity to explore the Human Resources Shared Service Centres (HR SSCs) field. To date, I have a total of five years of experience in the HR industry.

  2. What do you do in Averis and what are you in charge of?

    I’m currently one of the team leaders in the HR division. My role involves leading a team to support our customers by providing HR services. I work closely with our customers to ensure that services are delivered on time and with accuracy.

    Additionally, I support my team members in advancing their careers by identifying their strengths and skills. I continuously monitor their performance, help them work towards their goals, and provide guidance as needed.

  3. How long have you been in Averis and how has your journey been so far?

    I’ve been with Averis for two years. I started as a HR Specialist and after six months, I was promoted to a team lead role. This opportunity allowed me to discover my passion for continuous learning and embracing new challenges.

  4. What do you look forward to when coming to work?

    I always look forward to working in a positive and supportive environment, as it greatly motivates me to get things done. Additionally, I value the growth opportunities that Averis has provided me with. Engaging in various projects here significantly contributes to both my personal and professional development.

  5. In your opinion, how does your role contribute to the company’s success in providing HR services and solutions?

    In addition to leading the team, I focus on ensuring efficiency in problem-solving, accuracy in data, and providing improved solutions to customers. As a team leader, I’m also responsible for identifying and nurturing both new and existing talents, ensuring the team aligns with and progresses toward company goals.

  6. What do you think about the work culture here?

    Firstly, our open office concept promotes open communication across all levels, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment. Secondly, you will have numerous opportunities to rotate through different teams, gaining diverse experiences and exposure that ensure continuous learning and growth.

  7. What is the most important thing you’ve learned while working here?

    While I can't meet our customers face-to-face, I communicate with them through emails and other virtual means. This has allowed me to improve my communication skills and become more flexible in handling different customers. Each customer requires a unique approach in order to respond to their needs effectively.

  8. As a LEAN committee member, what does your role entail?

    My role is to simplify our HR operations process flow by eliminating non-value-adding processes and waste. I need to understand the HR process with respective teams and ensure value is created when transforming the process to Robotics Process Automation (RPA). On top of that, I provide advice on the most effective ways to automate daily repetitive tasks and streamline operational processes. I then communicate them with the RPA developer team for further action.

  9. What’s your biggest achievement to date?

    I believe my biggest achievement is growing from a graduate who knew nothing to becoming a team leader. I appreciate all the opportunities that has allowed me to perform and learn different skills throughout my journey. These skills enable me to guide analysts and advise them on their career paths using my past experiences.

  10. As a hiring manager, give us three best tips of what NOT TO DO during an interview.

    • Being unprepared: Answering without preparation can make you look unprofessional. It's better to come up with potential answers and provide real-life examples that demonstrate your abilities.
    • Being negative: Always reframe your answers to show positivity and confidence.
    • Being late: Showing up late makes a poor first impression. If you’re late, apologise for the time wasted and explain why. Don’t show up late without informing the recruiter.

  11. Any words of advice for those who want to pursue a career in HR?

    I encourage fresh graduates to explore careers in our HR department. We actively invest in our employees' growth by providing opportunities for skill enhancement and training programmes.
